Since legalizing marijuana, Denver’s tourism has skyrocketed. Yes, weed is legal. But it’s still illegal to smoke it in most public places. So before traveling here, make sure you’re familiar with all our rules and regulations to ensure you have a highly satisfying Colorado experience.
1. Marijuana is legal to anyone 21 years or older.
This may seem like an immediate no brainer, but our dispensaries are very strict when it comes to rules and checking IDs. And they check. Each dispensary requires to see you license before allowing you to actually tour around the shop and even just browse the various selections. The only exception are to those using medicinal marijuana – and a medical license is required and must be shown.
2. Dispensary store hours.
Dispensaries are legally allowed to sell between the hours of 8am and 7pm – no earlier and no later.
3. There’s a limit to how much weed you can buy.
If you’re from Colorado, you’re legally allowed to purchase up to an ounce. If you’re from out-of-state however, you can purchase no more than a quarter ounce
4. Edibles give more bang for your buck.
If you’re newer to the marijuana scene and are coming to Colorado to experience it, then you most likely have thought about edibles in addition to the various other forms of cannabis consumption – bongs, pipes, vape pens, joints. The high will not only last longer, but so will the edibles because of the small amount that is needed to be taken to get high. Request something that is easy to break up into small increments, such as a chocolate bar or individual gummies.
5. Where you can and can’t light up.
Contrary to popular belief, you can’t smoke anywhere you want. Colorado has laws that apply to marijuana smokers and a lot of public spaces don’t allow it. Look at the list below so you know before you go.
