Moving Tips: Cleaning and Editing Before Your Move
Spring has finally sprung and with it comes the start of the busy season for high-end moving companies. As you prepare for your upcoming move, now is the perfect time to start thinking about editing and pruning your belongings. Here are some quick tips to help you get started:
Start early: Don't wait until the last minute to start sorting through your belongings. Give yourself plenty of time to go through everything and decide what you want to keep and what you can part with.
Be realistic: Take a hard look at your belongings and be honest with yourself about what you really need and what you no longer use (or want). It can be freeing to donate your unused items.
Donate or sell unwanted items: Once you've identified items you no longer need, consider donating them to a local charity or selling them online. Not only will you be doing a good deed, but you are clearing space in your mind just as much as you are your closets and garage
Refresh your linens: Think about your new space: Before you move, consider your new residence. Start the design process early and snap up things such as more of your favorite towels and sheets so you can truly enjoy that fresh clean feeling upon arrival.
Pre-Organize: We are suckers for a Khloe Kardashian inspired pantry. Giving your pantry goods a serious makeover BEFORE the move accomplishes a few things. You'll be able to toss expired dry goods, your stored food will be hyper-organized AND (and this is the best part) -- when you move in to your new home, your pantry will INSTANTLY look amazing thanks to your collection of baskets and air-tight canisters
Personal favorites: these containers from OXO and these hyacinth baskets. Just adding these two simple elements to your pantry and ditching the containers is the glow up you didn’t know you needed. Trust us — you will discover you are more exited to cook and bake after doing this and you’ll always know when you need more of ingredient x, y or z because you can actually see how much you have. 10/10 recommend!
Deep clean: This sounds counterintuitive, but a good deep clean of your home before your move date is a great way to further refine your belongings and ensure your move is seamless. A good spring clean will unearth extra items in cabinets and drawers you didn't even know you still owned AND polish up the chrome on your countertop appliances.
By taking the time to edit and prune your belongings before your move, you'll be able to enjoy a truly fresh start at your new residence. Embrace the spring feeling, open up the windows and let the editing begin.
